Flenglish: Bourgondier
My husband has started a side-business making #pateforthepeople! He’s selling his handmade pâtés, inspired by Belgian tradition, at the 124 Street Grand Market in Edmonton, Alberta.
Check out his website, bourgondier.ca, to see the market schedule and learn more about his pâtés. I’ll also be there, sending out smiles, chatting up the people, and selling some yummy goods.
And now for the Flenglish lesson …
The word Bourgondier is traced back from the old families and dukes of Burgundy in the early medieval times. In Belgium, it stands for a person who generally enjoys life to its fullest. Someone who feasts on delicious foods without guilt, doesn’t mind a drink, and shares these with the people surrounding them.
Although the original Burgundians were rich aristocrats, the current Belgian Bourgondier enjoys that rich food in a simple, no fuss manner. All the fantastic food of the French, without any of the stuffiness.
We are unabashed bourgondiers in our little family and anyone who’s had supper at our house or vacationed with us can attest to that.
Here’s a little comic of what he had on sale for our first market. It was such a fun day! To see the photos, follow Bourgondier on Instagram.
