COVID-19 – Stay Home and Draw YEG

I started working from home March 13, 2020 once COVID-19 preparations began in earnest at my workplace. It’s been a adjustment (both weird as well as kinda good) and its been emotional too, if I’m being honest. I’m wrestling with my worry – for my family overseas, friends who own their own businesses, work in private industry, or have jobs in the public sector, and co-workers (and friends) in post-secondary. Everyone is already feeling reverberations of the economic recession and COVID-19 fears. It’s a lot. What do we need in times of strife? Art. And hugs. And exercise.

It’s been a bit over a week and to keep busy I’m participating in an Instagram drawing community organized by Edmonton artist, Emily Chu.

So here are mine, right from my sketchbook. Hopefully, I’ll keep going and give a weekly recap on the blog as we move forward with this new, fragile ‘normal’.

Left: Newspaper clippings from the Globe and Mail Right: Single line, eyes closed, self-portraits
Left: Our messy, full fridge. Right: Our local foodie businesses that we want to be sure to support
Left: Bird’s Eye View from our 3rd floor Condo feat. Kevin the Magpie and a giant YEG hare. Right: ‘Staycation Meals’ real vs. imagined
Left: “Non-Essential” essentials Right: Kevin returns as my neighbourhood’s King Magpie.
Under the High Level Bridge

You can see I’m getting better at scanning my work as I moved through the week. Hooray! If you want to see any of these larger, you can right click and view in a separate tab.

Thanks for all the encouragement on Instagram this week, friends!
