Trout-Mere

I am loving Lynda Barry’s new book ‘Making Comics’. This is a result of one of her brilliant exercises from that book. She says that you need to just let your hands and your mind wander and something personal will come out. So out came this Trout-Mere but living in a pacific ocean environment (notice the kelp and purple coral). I posted this on Instagram and acknowledged this was a bit absurd. BUT THEN, my Papa Bear piped up and said, “Oh, well you are a Steelhead Trout.” I didn’t know I was a Steelhead Trout until this magically came out of my hands.

I looked up the species and learned some cool stuff! And it felt right. I am a Steelhead Trout. At home in freshwater and saltwater. Adaptable. Vibrant. Hearty.
