Practicing Perspective with Mexican Architecture

Museo De San Ildefonso is a cultural centre of Mexico and considered to be the birthplace of Mexican Muralism. Say what? Yes!

I’ve been slowly trying to improve my drawing using the techniques of perspective. It’s tough but worth it. I’d love to be able to draw pieces that “pop!” off the page. The architecture in Mexico is amazing and complex for a beginner learning perspective. The only way is to learn by doing.

Here is a study of a romantic corner in Guanajuato, a city full of colour and warmth.

This is still janky. And a bit of a strange mix of my abstract style and my comic style. So, I tried again and went minimal to see if I could get a sharper perspective.

Minimal Guanajuato Perspective Study

I kinda like it! It has more pop but less character than my version with my ‘comic style’. Which one do you like?

I love the first one! I think the “busy” fits the street corner with all the patterns and colours at play! Great blog Meredith.
