Ilvy Goossens on belonging, becoming, and growth
Ilvy Goosens is a Belgian international PhD student at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, British Columbia.
She and I go way back. We met when I lived in Belgium in 2012 and we became fast friends. I still remember our conversation, over coffees in our favourite cafe in Leuven, about her exploring potential opportunities in psychology in Canada. A couple years later, Ilvy moved to Canada to pursue her masters and is now in the midst of her PhD in forensic psychology.
In this interview, we discuss finding belonging in two different cultures, navigating a different version of yourself in a new country, and experiencing Canada as an international student. She also introduces us to the world of forensic psychology.
