For the first episode of season 1, I speak with Amy Dillon, an Australian living in Edmonton. She moved from Melbourne to a small, rural Alberta town for love about 4 years ago.

Although now she lives in Edmonton, she’s gained new perspectives from the culture shock that resulted from her move across the world.

I wanted to interview Amy for the podcast because for one thing, she’s always up for a new creative project and secondly, she’s open to talking about the differences she sees in Australian and Canadian culture. Overall, I would describe her as a ‘taste-maker’ because of her eye for design and her taste for flavour.

The first thing that comes to mind is Triple J radio. It’s an ABC show and has an awesome news show everyday called hack. They also play ad free local and international music of all genres.

The only movie I can think of is The Castle – an old tongue-in-cheek Aussie film that documents the story of a loveable bogan family as the fight to keep their home from being bulldozed for a new airport. It’s kind of on the same plane as Trailer Park Boys haha.

When talking art and culture in Melbourne, I can’t really go past the abundant street art. The most famous spot is Hozier lane but it’s literally everywhere.

Australian Centre for the Moving Image always has really interesting exhibitions.
